Intoeing - Pigeon Toe Treatment

Information from your Podiatrist in Orange County

Intoeing means that the feet turn inward during walking. Intoeing almost
always corrects itself without treatment as the child grows.

Symptoms

Increased tripping or stumbling

Causes

Depends on the level of the deformity. There are three common conditions
causing intoeing: curved foot (metatarsus adductus), twisted shin (tibia torsion),
and twisted thigh bone (increased femoral anteversion). Each of these conditions
may run in families. They also can simply occur on their own or in association
with other orthopedic problems. Prevention is not usually possible
they occur from developmental or genetic problems that can't be controlled for.

Treatment

The deformity is usually self correcting. In severe instances, casting or surgery
is indicated.
