Hallux Limitus/Rigidus
The two terms are used interchangeably. It is defined as decreased range of motion
of the great toe joint. The stages range from non painful decreased range of motion
to severely arthritic and painful joint. Some patients complain that there is
ball of foot pain
Diagnosis
X-ray and physical exam are used to determine the stage of the disease
Treatment
Orthotics can be used to increase the range of motion of the joint by changing
how the foot functions.
Steroid injections can help relieve pain and inflammation.
Surgical Treatment
There are various surgical options to pick from when dealing with hallux limitus.
The choice is based on patient age and severity of the deformity. Consult with a podiatrist in Newport Beach CA, or in your area.
