Hallux Limitus or Hallux Rigidus in Orange County

The two terms (Hallux Limitus and Hallux Ridigus) are used interchangeably.

Also called “big toe joint pain”.

It is defined as decreased range of motion of the great toe joint due to arthritic changes and cartilage damage.

The stages range from non painful decreased range of motion of the big toe joint to severely arthritic and painful joint.

Some patients complain that there is decreased range of motion at the big toe joint, swelling of the big toe joint and pain.

It may look like there is extra bone formation on top of the foot.

This diagnosis is commonly confused with a bunion deformity.
