The foot is made up of 26 bones. Any of those bones can sustain an injury.
How long should you buddy tape nondisplaced toe fractures?
If you sustain a non-displaced toe fracture the most common form of treatment is to "buddy tape it" for 3-5 weeks. Tape the injured toe to one of the toes next to it. Keep the tape on as long as possible. Less motion with tape changes is better.
If you feel foot pain on top of the foot or the ball of the foot, it is important NOT to take any NSAID's if you suspect a fracture. Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Medication slow down bone healing.(Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Naprosyn...)
Tylenol (Acetaminophen) is ok to take for pain as long as there are no contraindications.
If a foot fracture is non displaced, then casting or protected weigh bearing is a good
treatment option.
Bones typically heal in 6-8 weeks.
If a fracture is displaced, then surgical correction might be needed for adequate
healing.
